India pacer Mohammed Shami was not in the playing XI in the first four matches. After getting the opportunity Shami was in tremendous form throughout the whole ODI World Cup. He is the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup finishing with 24 wickets in just 7 matches.

He has taken one wicket in an average of 2 overs. He averaged just 10.70 runs per wicket. No bowler with at least five wickets has a better bowling average or better strike rate than him. 

Shami single-handedly destroyed New Zealand's batting line in the semi-final. He took 7 wickets with 57 runs. This is the best bowling figure in this World Cup. He is also the owner of the highest average of five wickets in three innings of 7 innings. Shami now has 55 wickets in the World Cup. He is the highest wicket-taker for India in the World Cup. He is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in all ODI World Cups.

Australia's Adam Zampa, who won the title, is second on the list of wicket takers in this World Cup. He was the main weapon in Australia's spin attack. He took 23 wickets in 11 innings at an average of 22.39.

Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka is third on the list with 21 wickets bowling in 9 innings at an average of 25. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is behind Dilshan with 20 wickets. His bowling average is 18.65. He was the most frugal among the pacers in this World Cup. He averaged just 4.06 runs per over. He also has the most maiden overs. By bowling 91.5 overs, the pacer had 9 overs maiden. South African pacer Gerald Coetzee took the same amount of wickets. He bowled 8 innings to take 20 wickets. 19.8 average and 6.23 economy. All these five bowlers have touched the milestone of 20 wickets. 

After Bumrah and Coetzee with 18 wickets in 9 innings is Pakistan's left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi. Another left-arm pacer, Marco Jansen, has one wicket less than him. Besides, six bowlers have 16 wickets each. They are Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner, Netherlands pacer Bas de Leede, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc and Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf.
