Two Indian stars and a consistent England batsman have made the shortlist for the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for September 2023.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the nominees for September's Player of the Month on Tuesday. India's Mohammad Siraj and Shubman Gill and England's Dawid Malan are the nominees for the men's award.

The rising star of Indian cricket was in great form in September as he scored a total of 480 ODI runs at an impressive average of 80.

Gill scored two half-centuries and a stunning century against Bangladesh as India won the Asia Cup and then continued that form in the ODI series against Australia.

The right-hander scored a superb 74 in the opening match of the series in Mohali and improved on that performance when he reached triple figures, scoring 104, in the next match in Indore.

The right-back put in a handful of excellent performances in September, but it was his game-winning six-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final that really stood out.

Siraj tore through Sri Lanka's batting line-up, posting excellent figures of 6/21 and playing an important role in helping India win the coveted Asia Cup trophy.

Overall, Siraj took a total of 11 wickets this month at an average of just 17.27.

David Malan (England)

The reliable left-hander proved his class throughout most of September when he won the Player of the Series award for his performance in England's ODI series against New Zealand.

Malan played three matches in this series and scored scores of 54, 96 and 127 to showcase his mettle ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India.

The top batter was also quick to score runs and achieved a total strike rate of 105.72 in this New Zealand series.
