Netherlands captain Scott Edwards is happy with their performance against South Africa despite the defeat in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match on Saturday (June 8).

South Africa beat Netherlands by a narrow margin of 4 wickets at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. This is the first win for South Africa against Dutch in the ICC events after losing two matches in previous encounters. They lost to Netherlands in the last T20 World Cup by 13 runs.

After being asked to bat first, Netherlands struggled throughout the whole innings. Ottneil Baartman's brilliant four-far reduced Netherlands to a below par 103 runs. They lost 6 wickets within 48 runs. Then, Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek made 54-run partnership to cross the total to 100-run mark. In reply, South Africa fluffed the chase with losing top four inside the powerplay but their talismanic finisher Miller powered them to the 4 wicket victory. Miller and Tristan Stubbs made 65-run partnership for the fifth wicket which defines the match.

“Extremely close. In a score of 110, an over can change the game. Credit to South Africa - they bowled extremely well - and the way those batted in the end. It's about just getting an understanding of how the wicket plays. We pride ourselves on playing good cricket over the last few years. Right until that last six, I felt we were one wicket away. It was a tough wicket to start on,” Edwards said.
