Harry Brook to Lead England in ODI Series Against Australia as Jos Buttler is Sidelined
Jos Buttler, 34, has been struggling with a calf injury that's already kept him out of the T20 series and The Hundred. Unfortunately, he hasn't recovered in time for the upcoming ODIs. As a result, England has turned to Harry Brook, one of their rising talents, to lead the team in Buttler's absence.

England is set to face Australia in a five-match ODI series, but they will be without their usual white-ball captain, Jos Buttler. Buttler, who has been recovering from a calf injury, was ruled out of the series, prompting the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to appoint Harry Brook as the stand-in captain. This marks the first time Brook will lead England in an international series.

Brook’s leadership qualities have been on display before, as he captained the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. Speaking about his leadership journey, Brook credited Test captain Ben Stokes for shaping his approach:
“I’ve played with Stokesy quite a bit now and, watching the way he goes about it, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t take a few learnings from him," Brook shared.
This ODI series will be Brook’s first time leading England in the 50-over format, making it a significant moment in his career. The team will also benefit from the inclusion of all-rounder Liam Livingstone, who has been in stellar form during the T20 series against Australia.
