When it comes to David Warner's successor to open the batting for the West Indies series in January, everything will be taken into consideration, and Cameron Green is still a viable possibility to be recalled as part of a batting order overhaul.

Andrew McDonald, the coach and selector of Australia, stated that all options for Warner's replacement remained open for discussion. He confirmed that these options included specialist openers Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft, and Matt Renshaw, as well as all-rounder Green returning to the middle order. McDonald made this statement the day after Australia's 79-run victory over Pakistan in Melbourne, which allowed them to claim the series 2-0 with a game to play in Sydney.

"All options will be considered. And I said we're not going to make the decision until the deadline which will be the West Indies game. There's a few options. Everyone is well aware of the options. I'm a person that once you know when you're going to make the decision, you make it at that point in time. Until then the discussions will be open. We'll put a deadline on that. That'll be the West Indies selection meeting.” McDonald said.

In the same time, McDonald revealed that Warner will submit an application for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in order to miss three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals against the West Indies in the beginning of February. This would allow Warner to participate in the International Twenty20 Tournament that would be hosted in the United Arab Emirates at the same time.
