Zimbabwe will play three ODIs and three T20Is in Sri Lanka in January 2024. It will be both teams' first bilateral T20I series in Sri Lanka as well as their first ODI series on the island since January 2022.
Zimbabwe will tour Sri Lanka for a series of three ODIs and three T20Is in January. It will be the first bilateral T20I series between the two teams in Sri Lanka and also the first ODI series between them on the island since January 2022.
Sri Lanka comes into the series on the back of a disappointing ODI World Cup, where they finished ninth, just ahead of the Netherlands, while Zimbabwe failed to make it into the tournament. Sri Lanka and the Netherlands made it to the World Cup through a qualifying tournament, but Zimbabwe failed to secure a place in the multi-team event they hosted earlier this year.
Zimbabwe also failed to make it to next year's T20 World Cup and fell behind Namibia and Uganda in the recent Africa qualifying tournaments in Namibia.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be hoping to bounce back after a series of disappointing results. They failed to qualify for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup after failing to secure a place in the top two in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier. This was followed by a 2-1 series defeat against Ireland at home.
The ODIs will be played on January 6, 8 and 11, followed by the T20Is which will be played on January 14, 16 and 18. The matches were originally scheduled to take place in Dambulla and Kandy, but with the under-19 World Cup being moved to South Africa due to the ban imposed on SLC by the ICC, it was decided that all matches would be played in Colombo alone.
