Bangladesh's maiden series win over Sri Lanka has not ended in a whitewash as they succumbed a 97-run loss in the third ODI at Mirpur. Bangladesh's fielding and top-order batting has faltered once again which takes them to defeat, staying on 50 points from nine Cricket World Cup Super League matches. Sri Lanka chose to bat first as both teams came with changes. Sri Lanka introduced three debutants among the four changes. Bangladesh made two changes, including dropping Liton Das for Mohammad Naim Sheikh. Danushka Gunathilaka welcomed Shoriful Islam with a four off the first ball. He and his captain Kusal Perera hit bowlers around the park in a 82-run stand in just 11.2 overs. Taskin Ahmed, who was wayward with his line and length early on, came back strongly sending back Gunathilaka (39 off 33) and Pathum Nissanka (0 off 4). Taskin then dismissed Kusal Mendis (22) but Perera went on with his luck. Perera was dropped on 66, 79 and 99 before notching up his sixth ODI hundred in 99 balls. His knock ended on 120 balls in 122 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six, to Shoriful Islam's bowling and a stunning catch by Mahmudullah Riyad, who dropped him on 99. Dhananjaya de Silva's 55* off 70 took Sri Lanka to 286/6 in 50 overs. Taskin remained the pick of the bowlers for his four wickets for 46 runs in nine overs. Dushmantha Chameera once again stepped up for Sri Lanka as he had Naim (1) on the first ball of his over. He has picked up at least wicket in the first over in all three ODIs this year. Chameera was not done yet. He put Bangladesh in further trouble sending Shakib Al Hasan (4) and Tamim Iqbal (17) back in the hut. Mushfiqur Rahim hung in for a while on the back of last match's hundred, but he handed Ramesh Mendis his first wicket playing a big shot to mid-on. Mushfiqur scored 54-ball 28 before leaving his team on 84/4 with asking rate creeping up. Mosaddek Hossain settled down the collapse with his third ODI half-century. The innings could not get any bigger as he reverse swept Mendis straight to short third-man making 51 off 72. Chameera returned to take his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs. He ended with figures of 5/16 in nine overs including a maiden. Mahmudullah Riyad hit a fifty (53 off 63) before falling to Binura Fernando as the last wicket. Bangladesh's innings ended on 189 runs in 42.3 overs. Sri Lanka now have 8 points on the Super League table before heading to England for a three-match series against the world champions.
