Australia captain Pat Cummins has provided an update on fast bowler Josh Hazlewood's availability for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, to be held at the Gabba, Brisbane. Hazlewood missed the second Test in Adelaide due to a minor side strain but is now on track for a return, adding a selection dilemma for the Australian team.

Hazlewood was a standout performer in the first Test at Perth, where he picked up four wickets in the first innings, emerging as Australia’s best bowler despite the team’s loss. However, a side strain forced him to sit out the second Test, where Scott Boland stepped in and delivered a match-winning performance, taking five key wickets, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill.

Speaking to reporters after Australia's comprehensive 10-wicket win in Adelaide, Cummins gave a positive fitness update on Hazlewood "Josh (Hazlewood) will have a bowl tomorrow. So he is on track (to be fit for Brisbane Test). Yeah, it's all gone to plan so far. Fairly confident he'll be right for Brisbane, we'll know more in the next couple of days. And yeah, someone who'll make way, he'll be pretty unlucky,"

Australia's bowling attack was ruthless in Adelaide, where they bowled India out for 180 and 175 across two innings. Mitchell Starc shone with career-best figures of 6-48, while Cummins himself claimed a fiery five-wicket haul, using aggressive short-pitched deliveries to dismantle India’s middle order. 

The victory leveled the Border-Gavaskar series 1-1, with Australia now looking ahead to the Brisbane Test, bolstered by the likely return of Hazlewood.
