England dominated the West Indies by 241 runs in the second Test at Trent Bridge, thanks in large part to the brilliant performance of teenage spinner Shoaib Bashir. Bashir, playing in his first home series, impressed England captain Ben Stokes with a spectacular five-wicket haul in this match, destroying the West Indies' middle order.
The West Indies' batting lineup collapsed during the evening session on Sunday, with Bashir taking 5-41 to secure the series-clinching win for England. His exceptional performance followed stellar centuries from Joe Root and Harry Brook, which set up England’s commanding position.
“I think what Bash has done today is to show the world what he can do. That wicket hardly offered anything for a spinner throughout the whole Test match and look at what he was able to do today,” said captain Ben Stokes at the post-match presentation.
England's batting performance in the second inning was another key highlight. Joe Root and Harry Brook shared a formidable 189-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Stokes emphasised the significance of the batting contributions, noting, “What shouldn't get lost in all this is that partnership between Brook and Root last night when the ball was swinging. We played well today again and if we are being brutally honest, we could have got more in the first innings. Nevertheless, chasing 380 odd in the 4th innings is never easy.”
