One of the newest members in the international Test arena, Afghanistan is in talks to play their 1st international Test match against Zimbabwe later this year. Afghanistan received their ICC Test status earlier this year, on June 22, alongside Ireland. The Afghanistan Cricket Board(ACB) wants to host the series. The sides are likely to play 1 Test, 5 ODI's and 2-3 T20I's. The ACB is trying to host the series either in India or the UAE, as the circumstances in Afghanistan is not safe enough for international cricket. Sources claim that Zimbabwe Cricket(ZC) have contacted the ACB last week and given the proposition a mild approval. However, neither country has confirmed the Test match yet. Zimbabwe are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a tri-series, in next years January-February. It's being speculated that the ZC would like to finish their series against Afghanistan on December and then travel to Bangladesh to play the tri-series. If the proposed Test match materializes, Afghanistan will become the 11th Test playing nation in the world. The rise of the Afghans in international cricket has been a major talking point in the cricketing world. Afghanistan had received their ODI status on 2009. It took them less than a decade to enter the highest echelon of international cricket. The game has become an obsession in the war troubled country. The achievements of the cricketers give relief to the grieve stricken people in Afghanistan. The last time the two sides took on each other, Afghanistan triumphed over Zimbabwe, beating them 3-2 in the ODI series and winning the solo T20I.
