Afghanistan's cricket team, led by iconic player Rashid Khan, has once again demonstrated its international prowess. Afghanistan received praise from cricket fans all across the world, particularly on the social media site X, for their clinical performance against the star-studded New Zealand team.
Afghanistan registered a thumping 84-run victory over New Zealand in a Group C match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at Providence Stadium, Guyana, on Friday (June 7). Invited to bat first, Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 159/6 on the board. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant 80 off 56 balls, while his opening partner, Ibrahim Zadran, contributed a handy 44 off 41 balls.
In reply, New Zealand’s innings folded for a paltry 75. It was a listless batting display from the Kiwis, with none of their batsmen managing to touch the 20-run mark. Afghanistan's bowlers, led by Rashid Khan, delivered a stellar performance against a strong new Zealand batting lineup.
Michael Vaughan on X (formerly known as Twitter) erupted with praise for the Afghan team's performance. Fans and experts from around the globe acknowledged the skill and determination displayed by the Afghan players.
Vaughan's endorsement of the Afghan team speaks volumes about their potential and talent. "It shouldn’t surprise anyone when Afghanistan play like this," Vaughan remarked. "They have outstanding T20 players & the best spin bowler in the world in Rashid Khan." He added via twitter.
