Zaka Ashraf's tenure as PCB head is expected to last at least until the end of the ongoing World Cup. The extension was confirmed by board patron and current interim Prime Minister of Pakistan Anwar ul Haq Kakar in a television interview on Friday.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee chairman Zaka Ashraf is expected to extend his tenure as Chief Executive Officer until the end of the ongoing 2023 World Cup.

According to sources, caretaker chief minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has received the summary for Ashraf's extension as PCB chief from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) and will soon decide on his future.

The current interim management committee governing the board, chaired by Ashraf, was scheduled to end on November 5. The government's future has been under intense scrutiny and the subject of considerable speculation in recent days following a series of high-profile missteps, including: a press release that appeared to place the blame on Captain Babar Azam and selector Inzamam-ul-Haq (who has since become... resigned) and a controversy surrounding a leaked WhatsApp conversation between Babar and a senior PCB official.

It is important to note that Ashraf - whose four-month term expires tomorrow (Saturday) - had replaced Najam Sethi as PCB chief in July this year.

The final decision to replace or extend Ashraf as PCB chief will be taken after the conclusion of the ongoing mega event, the finale of which is scheduled to take place on November 19, the sources added.

The development comes at a time when the current PCB top leader is facing egregious misconduct and unconstitutional decisions by a member of his own management committee towards the end of his term.

Zulfiqar Malik, a member of the management committee, made these allegations in an email to Ashraf and the management committee.
