The Cricket West Indies (CWI) senior selection body on Thursday (July 28) announced a 16-man squad for the five-game T20I series against India and the subsequent three-game T20I series against New Zealand.

Cricket West Indies announced a strong 16-man squad for the upcoming T20Is against India, which are due to start on July 29. West Indies will play five games against India and three against New Zealand after completing the Series -Match T20I Series. West Indies, who lost the ODI series to India, will now have the services of Shimron Hetmyer for the 20-over games.

West Indies recently lost the three-game ODI series to India 3-0. Now they will face India in the 5 match T20I series which will be played on 29th July, 1st August, 2nd August, 6th August and 7th August.

The first three games against India will be played in the West Indies. The first game is to be hosted by the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. The competition will also be the first-ever international match to be played at this venue. The second and third games will be played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts, and the last two games will be played at the turf ground of Central Broward Regional Park Stadium, Lauderhill, Florida.

Nicholas Pooran will continue in his role as skipper of the team and will be joined by Rovman Powell as his deputy. Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers and Hetmyer form a strong batting lineup for the hosts. Hetmyer, the prolific batsman known for hitting the winning runs for the team, missed the ODI series against India but will be back in Maroon for the upcoming T20Is.

West Indies selector Desmond Haynes, speaking about the roster, said they are building the roster with the upcoming 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in mind. He was also pleased to see Hetmyer in West Indies colors again.

“We welcome back Hetmyer and it's good to see him in West Indies colors again. He will strengthen the batting group and with his experience and adaptability we have a 'finisher' who can add value and win games for the team and excite the fans."

They would try to repeat some similar exploits against India and New Zealand. The same group of 16 players will head to Jamaica for the subsequent three-game T20I series against New Zealand at Sabina Park, taking place from Wednesday 10th August to Sunday 14th August. An official squad of 13 players is named before each game.

West Indies Squad: Nicholas Pooran (Captain), Rovman Powell (Vice Captain), Shamarh Brooks, Dominic Drakes, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Obed Mccoy, Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Devon Thomas, Hayden Walsh Jr.
