Sri Lankan National Cricket Team star Kamindu Mendis lit up the MA Chidambaram Stadium with what fans are already calling the ‘catch of the tournament’ in IPL 2025. The Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder pulled off a jaw-dropping grab to send back Dewald Brevis just when the South African batter looked threatening for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Brevis who had launched into a fiery innings on debut smashing 42 off just 24 balls with four fours and as many sixes, was looking to push CSK toward a strong finish. But in the blink of an eye Harshal Patel delivered a clever slower ball and Mendis changed the course of the game with an extraordinary piece of athleticism.

It was the fifth delivery of Harshal’s over a slower ball wide outside off. Brevis swung hard aiming to clear long-off. But Mendis patrolling the deep read it perfectly.

The Sri Lankan star launched into a full-stretch dive to his left flying mid-air like Superman and got both hands under the ball to complete a stunning catch.

Kamindu Mendis wasn’t done yet. With the ball in hand he also bagged a crucial wicket of Ravindra Jadeja making his impact felt in every department. At the time of writing CSK were reeling at 147/9 despite Brevis’ brilliance at the top.
