Sri Lanka spinner Praveen Jayawickrama charged for breaching ICC anti-corruption code
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the ICC have decided that the ICC will handle the Lanka Premier League charge in addition to the International Match charges, in line with Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Code.

Sri Lanka spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged by ICC. The ICC charged him with violating the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. The 25-year-old cricketer has been charged with three code violations.
The allegations relate to international cricket as well as the 2021 edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL). The three charges against him are:
Article 2.4.4 – Failing to report to the Anti-Corruption Unit, without unnecessary delay, details of an approach he received to carry out fixing in future International Matches.
Article 2.4.4 –Failing to report to the Anti-Corruption Unit, without unnecessary delay, details of an approach he received in which he was asked to approach another player, on a corrupter’s behalf, to carry out fixing in the 2021 Lanka Premier League.
Article 2.4.7 – Obstructing the investigation by deleting messages in which the approaches and offers to engage in corrupt conduct were made.

Jayawickrama will have 14 days starting on August 6 to answer to the accusations. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Indian Cricket Council (ICC) have reached an agreement under the anti-corruption code wherein the ICC will prosecute the LPL case in addition to the charges pertaining to international matches.
Jayawickrama has participated in five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is since making his debut on the international scene in a Test against Bangladesh in April 2021. In a T20I series against Australia played at home in 2022, that was his final outing for Sri Lanka.
Jayawickrama was a member of the Jaffna Kings team that won their second title in the LPL in 2021. In his lone game of the season, he claimed two wickets. He participated for the Dambulla Sixers in the LPL 2024.
