In the fifth and final T20I in St George's, South Africa have trumped West Indies by 25 runs to take the five-match series 3-2. South Africa defend 160-odd again to clinch series

For the fifth consecutive time the team batting first made a 160-odd score. South Africa, who were batting first for the fourth time in this series, posted 168/4 despite looking good for a bigger total at one stage. With Reeza Hendricks out, skipper Temba Bavuma's promotion to the top did not work out as Fidel Edwards sent him back for a three-ball duck. In-form Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram put on 128 runs for the second wicket, which is South Africa's sixth-best for any wicket. de Kock was sent back by Edwards after scoring his third successive fifty - 60 off 42 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Markram made career-best 48-ball 70 runs hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes. David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen and Wiaan Mulder could not do much in the death overs as the total remained under 170. Evin Lewis kept the hosts in charge in the run chase albeit losing Lendl Simmons and Chris Gayle. Lewis' 52 off 34, including 5 boundaries and 3 maximums, laid the foundation to take down the target. But West Indies lost their way in the last six overs. Wiaan Mulder's full-tosses had Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell out on consecutive balls. Shimron Hetmyer, who was given a life on two occasions, struggled in his 31-ball 33, while Nicholas Pooran (20 off 14) gave a final go at the targer. Kagiso Rabada's double-strike in the penultimate over hit the final nail in the coffin as South Africa restricted West Indies to 143/9. Lungi Ngidi bagged 3 wickets for 32 runs. Player of the series Tabraiz Shamsi gave only 11 runs for one wicket in his four-over spell. The series win is South Africa's first in T20I format since March 2019.
