Team India captain Rohit Sharma has received one of the biggest honours of his cricketing career a stand named after him at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium. The Divecha Pavilion Level 3 will now officially be called the ‘Rohit Sharma Stand’, following the approval from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

For Rohit, this isn’t just another milestone. This is deeply personal.
The 37-year-old who grew up in Mumbai and spent countless hours practicing at Azad Maidan, looked back on his journey from dreaming of entering Wankhede as a young boy to now having a stand named after him at the same venue.
“It’s an unreal feeling,” said Rohit during the inauguration of the Mumbai T20 League’s third edition, set to begin on May 26.
“This is something I never imagined. I will be forever grateful for this big honour in my life.” he added.
Wankhede Stadium already honours Mumbai’s cricketing greats with stands named after Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant, and Dilip Vengsarkar. Now, Rohit joins that elite list and rightly so.
Having represented India since 2007 Rohit has led the country to back-to-back ICC titles winning the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025. As a Mumbai player and Indian skipper, Wankhede has witnessed some of his most memorable innings.
"When you start playing the game, you don't know how long you are going to play the game for; let alone all these milestones and achievements that you achieve while playing the game. But to get this kind of honour, having a stand named after you, is something that I cannot imagine," Rohit said.
"But once I see my name there on the stand, it will be a very emotional moment for me and like I said, from not having to enter the stadium and now to have a stand, those two moments, so much has happened between these two moments so I am forever grateful," Rohit added.
