Leicestershire has signed Pakistani Test captain Shan Masood for the 2025 season. Masood, who has scored over 22,000 runs in his career, will play as an overseas player alongside Peter Handscomb and Logan van Beek.
Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has signed an all-format contract with Leicestershire for the 2025 season. Masood will join the squad in mid-May, following the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League, and will be available for Leicestershire's opening T20 Blast match on May 31.
The 35-year-old, who captained a Test series victory against England last year, brings experience and batting depth to the Grace Road team. He will begin his contract in May, following the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League, and is expected to make his Leicestershire debut on May 31 against his former county, Derbyshire.
The move ends Masood's association with Yorkshire following a two-year contract that saw him captain the club since 2023. The left-handed opener scored 1,240 runs in 15 matches in the County Championship at an average of 53.91, helping Yorkshire regain promotion to Division One in 2024.
"I'm delighted to have the opportunity to play in all three formats for Leicestershire. I have always admired the club and really enjoyed good conversations with many of the team members over the past three seasons," said Masood in a statement issued Tuesday.
"I enjoy playing at the Uptonsteel County Ground. The crowd is massively supportive of the team, and the matches I've been to have always been an excellent spectacle. The club has been highly competitive in all forms and has developed some excellent young players over the last couple of years. It's a thrilling time to be coming to the Foxes."
Director of Cricket Claude Henderson said: "We are thrilled to be able to sign someone of Shan's quality to Leicestershire. He is an established talent in international and county cricket, and a player who can win games in all three formats.
"Shan rounds off an excellent overseas signing panel for our team. His experience and leadership will be huge assets to the team on and off the pitch."
