Bangladesh's dream of the Asia Cup final has been diminished by losing to Sri Lanka yesterday. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president and chief executive returned home after watching the match where they lost despite having a golden chance to win. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim also returned home with them, although the team still has one match left in the Asia Cup.

The hosts Sri Lanka and Bangladesh met on Saturday (September 9) in the Super Four of the Asia Cup. BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury, and influential board director Sheikh Sohail went to watch that match. After the match, they returned home on Sunday (September 10) morning.

However, team captain Shakib and wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur returned on the same flight with them. Bangladesh's next match is on September 15, against India. The two are scheduled to rejoin the team before that match. Shakib-Mushfiqur have returned home but their other teammates are staying in Sri Lanka. 

Despite losing to Sri Lanka in the group stage, the Tigers made it to the last four with a resounding win over the Afghans. However, in the Super Four, they lost two matches in a row to Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh's hope of going to the final is virtually over. The Tigers, who played consecutive matches, got a 5-day break in the schedule. However, it is not yet known when Shakib-Mushfiqur will join the team.
