Sri Lankan Cricket is about the announce the list of contracted players, which is a regular procedure done annually. This time, Sri Lanka Cricket has proposed a new payment scheme as said earlier. The grading is based on the players performances in Test, ODI and fitness from from Jan 01st 2019 to Jan 31 2021.
In the new scheme, players are categorised under four grades and there are three subdivisions inside each grade. Overall there are 12 types of divisions are found in the contract list with two players in each division.
The highest-paid contract will be A1 and players under A1 grade will be paid USD 100,000. The least paid contract will be D3 and players under the grade will be paid USD 25,000. In between these two grades, the other types of grades and the payments will be included.
According to this scheme, Niroshan Dickwella and Dhananjaya de Silva will be the highest-paid Sri Lankan cricketers. At the same time, the senior players Angelo Mathews (USD 50,000), Dimuth Karunaratne (USD 30,000), and Suranga Lakmal (USD 45,000) will get pay cuts. This has raised concerns among players regarding the new payment scheme.
With these issues going around the announcement of the annual contracted list of players by the Sri Lanka Cricket, is getting delayed. It is reported that the players want to know about know the formula in which the new scheme is prepared, before signing the contract.
