Cricket South Africa (CSA) organised the player auction for the third edition of South Africa's biggest cricket carnival of the year SA20 league (2025) on Tuesday, October 1, in Cape Town. The highly anticipated SA20 2025 season will feature six fighting teams, including: Pretoria Capitals, Paarl Royals, SunRisers Eastern Cape, Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, and MI Cape Town. The tournament is set to take place from January 9 to February 8, 2025, across six venues in beautiful South Africa.
Talking about the auction top pick, right-hand batsman Reeza Hendricks, who was named South Africa's T20 Cricketer of the Year, became the most expensive player in the auction. MI Cape Town secured his services for a staggering R4.3 million after a fierce bidding war with Pretoria Capitals. Hendricks, who previously played for Joburg Super Kings, will now bring his explosive batting talents to MI Cape Town as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Each of the six franchises was required to build a squad comprising 19 players. The squads had to include a minimum of 10 South African players, with a cap of seven international players. Additionally, every team was expected to draft one rookie and one wildcard player.
