India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate provided crucial fitness updates on key players Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of the second Test against New Zealand. The match is set to begin on October 24 at the Pune Cricket Stadium.

Rishabh Pant, who was struck on his knee during wicketkeeping duties in the first Test, only batted in the second innings. Dhruv Jurel stepped in to keep wickets while Pant was managing some discomfort. However, Ryan ten Doeschate has assured fans that Pant’s condition is improving.

"Pant is looking good. Hopefully, he'll keep wickets in this Test. He was having slight discomfort while running towards the end of his knock," said ten Doeschate.

Shubman Gill, who missed the first Test due to a stiff neck, is also on the mend. According to the assistant coach, Gill has been working hard in the nets and appears fit to return for the second Test.

"He looks so (available for the next game). He has a slight discomfort. He batted for a long in Bengaluru in the nets session. I think he will be fine for this test," confirmed ten Doeschate.

There were also concerns surrounding Ravichandran Ashwin’s fitness, as he bowled just a couple of overs in the final innings of the first Test. However, ten Doeschate dispelled any worries, stating that Ashwin is fully fit and will be available for the upcoming match.

"Ashwin is absolutely fine fitness-wise. No niggle," the coach added, providing some relief for Indian cricket fans.
