In a dramatic turn of events, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) suffered a heartbreaking exit from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 after losing the eliminator to the Barbados Royals under controversial circumstances. The match, held at Providence Stadium in Guyana, was marred by a sudden floodlight failure that delayed play and altered the match’s course, leaving Russell and TKR fans furious.

TKR were cruising at 168/3, with Nicholas Pooran on an explosive 91* from 60 balls and Andre Russell at 20 off 18 balls, when a power outage struck the stadium during the final over of their innings. The disruption resulted in a two-hour delay, and the match was subsequently shortened to five overs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, with the Barbados Royals needing just 60 runs to win.

Despite TKR's attempts, David Miller's quickfire 50 off 17 balls pushed Barbados to victory with four balls to spare, eliminating the Knight Riders and irritating Andre Russell.

Russell took to Instagram to vent his frustration, calling the situation "robbery" and criticizing the handling of the floodlight failure and DLS adjustments.

"Am not the person to come on the internet and voice my opinion but this year CPL I feel robbed this light situation was fuckry lights came on just before the cut off time is also fuckry and then 60 off 30 balls is also a bigger fuckry and yes Andre Russell said it right is right fuckry a fuckry but Iguess it's just pure fuckry a e gwaan," Russell posted on Instagram.
