The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is facing uncertainty, with Pakistan's hosting rights in doubt after India refused to send their cricket team to the country. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised safety concerns, and without government approval, the Indian team won’t travel to Pakistan.
This has led to talks of a "hyrid model," where the matches would be split between two countries. The ICC had suggested this solution, with some matches in Pakistan and India's games possibly held elsewhere, like Dubai. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not responded positively and remains firm on hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan.
If Pakistan decides to withdraw as hosts, India is emerging as the top candidate to take over the tournament. According to reports from Sports Tak, the ICC is already exploring this option, and India is considered the front-runner to host the event.
The PCB has expressed disappointment with India’s decision and has asked the ICC for further clarification. However, given India’s importance to the tournament in terms of revenue and global viewership, the ICC is keen to resolve the issue quickly.
With South Africa ruled out as an alternative venue, India looks ready to step in and host the Champions Trophy 2025 if Pakistan pulls out. This development echoes the 2023 Asia Cup, where a similar hybrid model was used due to tensions between the two nations.
