The International Cricket Council (ICC) has penalized Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan for a level 1 infraction of the code of conduct during Afghanistan’s Super Eight match against Bangladesh in Kingstown on July 24.
As a result of the historic victory against Bangladesh, Afghanistan went to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the first time in the history of the World Cup.
Rashid lost his temper while batting in a tense and exciting match against Bangladesh. He also threw the bat in anger. Rashid was punished for an incident that occurred during Afghanistan's 20th over. Rashid had hit the ball into the offside zone and needed a second run to keep strike, but was called back by teammate Karim Janat. Rashid, enraged, had to turn around in the middle of a pitch and flung his bat in Janat's direction first.
As a result of that incident, the ICC brought him under punishment. One demerit point has been added next to the name.
It was his first offence in a 24-month period. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of a reprimand and a maximum penalty of a 50% fine of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points.
