Being asked to bat first, Windies had a terrific start. Charles collected some boundaries and Pooran came out with all the guns blazing and put Afghanistan bowlers under tremendous pressure. Windies were running rapidly at 85-1 after 5 overs. Naveen Ul Haq brought Afghanistan back by breakthroughs, but the swashbuckling southpaw, Pooran found his rhythm to pumell Rashid in the death overs to help West Indies post a massive 218 on the board.
Pooran unluckily was run-out on 98, only two shy off a century.
In reply, Afghanistan didn’t have a solid start, losing quick wickets inside the powerplay. They lost Gurbaz for a duck set them back. Ibrahim Zadran kept the scoreboard ticking. Motie and McCoy struck thrice in two overs and took the game away from West Indies.
The wickets kept tumbling thereafter as batters perished trying to clear the rope. Afghanistan eventually lost the game by 104 runs and West Indies go into the Super-Eight being unbeaten.
