There are usually 11 players in the field. If a player of the XI is out of the field, there is an opportunity to use another player of the team as his replacement. But in the PSL, Peshawar fielded 10 men after umpires prevented them from fielding a twelfth man instead of a XI player.
Peshawar pacer Mohammad Irfan got injured in Islamabad's first innings. Irfan came to bowl his last over in the 11th over of the innings and fell to the ground right after the first ball. However, he completed his over. He was also given first aid at the boundary line during the twelfth over.
But Irfan couldn’t able to field. So Haider Ali came as his replacement fielder. After the end of the twelfth over, two on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Asif Yaqoob said Haider to leave the field. The umpires argued that it was not clear whether Irfan was actually injured.
In the 14th and 15th overs, Peshawar fielded with 10 players. When the medical team reported Irfan's injury, the umpires allowed Peshawar to use a replacement fielder in the 16th over. Then Khalid Usman, who was out of the XI, came to field.
However, Peshawar easily won the controversial match. They beat Islamabad by 8 wickets to secure the spot in the final. Peshawar will face Multan Sultans in the final on Thursday (June 24).
