Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali has expressed his passionate desire to make his mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite Pakistani cricketers having long been banned from participating in the tournament since its inception in 2008.
The ban, initially imposed after the Mumbai terror attack in 2008, has prevented Pakistani cricket stars from taking the IPL stage for over a decade.
However, in a recent interview with a local news channel, Hasan remained optimistic about the prospect of breaking that barrier and donning the colors of an IPL franchise.
In the 2012–13 season, Pakistan visited India for a short limited-overs tour, but its players were not allowed to take part in the IPL. With bilateral relations between India and Pakistan having shown little improvement in recent times, it would not be surprising if Pakistani players do not get the chance to take part in the IPL in the coming years.
However, that hasn't stopped Hasan Ali from admitting that he would like to experience the IPL as a player. In a recent interview, the right-arm pacer, who was recently in India for the World Cup, said that like any other player, he too would like to play in the IPL. He also described the league as one of the greatest leagues in the world.
“Every player wants to play in the Indian Premier League and it is my wish to play there. It is one of the biggest leagues in the world and I will definitely play there if an opportunity arises in the future,” said Hasan Ali.
While the ban has kept several prominent Pakistani cricketers including Shoaib Malik, Shoaib Akhtar, Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Shahid Afridi and others away from the IPL after the inaugural edition.
