Rain enforced early stumps on a intriguing day at the Oval in the Ashes. The day was Stuart Broad's final appearance as a player in Test Cricket. Broad got a 'Guard of Honour' from his arch rival Australia. He smacked six to Starc in the last ball of his career. However England posted an indomitable 383 on the board and set a target for Australia 384.

Coming out to chase, Aussie openers gave them off to a rollicking start. Warner survived Broad's new ball onburst and remained solid at the end, while his partner Usman Khawaja looked calm and composed and was smacking boundaries at ease at the other ends. The batters had bettet intents today and were scoring at a better rate. The duo added 135 to the tally where Warner made 58 and the other scored 69.

The hosts missed the trick by not using Mark Wood with the new ball and kept him for the old ball in search of reverse swing but simply didn’t happen. The pitch was placid and was easy to bat on.
