England all-rounder Liam Livingstone has made it clear that he's not giving up on his ODI ambitions despite ongoing challenges with form and fitness. The 31-year-old showcased his value to the England setup with a strong all-round display in the first T20I against Australia at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on September 11, even though England suffered a 28-run defeat.

In the match, Livingstone demonstrated his versatility by taking 3 wickets for 22 runs and scoring 37 off 27 balls. Despite not being part of England’s current ODI squad, his performance in the ongoing T20I series against Australia could help revive his ODI career.

Despite not being in the ODI squad, Livingstone remains optimistic about making a return. Reflecting on his position, he acknowledged that it has been a tough couple of years with injuries but expressed his determination to keep pushing for a spot.

"I don't really know - that's one of my challenges. That's why I'm happy that I've got an opportunity to bat up the order [in the T20Is]," Livingstone said, according to ESPNCricinfo. "I feel like I've shown over the last couple of weeks, maybe a month, that the longer I get to bat in games, the more of a chance I have to affect games."

Livingstone also touched on the reality of not making the ODI squad but remained pragmatic. "It is what it is: I'm 31, I'm not going to sit here and cry about not being picked. There's plenty of cricket to be played around the world, and if I'm not involved in the ODI stuff, then there's plenty more opportunities," he added.o

He further confirmed that he has not given up on the ODI comeback dream. He said:

"I want to play as much cricket for England as I possibly can. Unfortunately, I won't be playing in the ODIs but it's still not something I'm giving up on. I've had a difficult couple of years. My body has probably let me down a little bit, and maybe I haven't been up to scratch physically, with a couple of niggles here and there."

For now, Livingstone will continue to focus on the T20I series, hoping that his performances can keep him in the selectors' minds for future ODI assignments. His recent displays have shown that he still has much to offer, and with more opportunities to bat higher up the order, he could potentially solidify his place in England’s limited-overs teams.
