Nathan Lyon has quietly become one of Australia's best cricketers. But Lyon didn't get the stardom that Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and even newcomers Cameron Green and Scott Boland got. But the spinner has played the most Tests for Australia in the last 10 years.

Lyon made his Test debut in 2011. The spinner has been in and out of the XI several times in the first 21 Test matches in 2013. On August 1, 2013, Lyon got a place in the Test XI, and since then he has never been left out of the Test XI.

01.08.2013 to 28.06.2023 - During this period Australia played 100 Test matches. Australia face England at Lord's on June 28, 2023. Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon became the only bowler and sixth player in cricket history to play 100 consecutive Tests.

It was his 100th consecutive appearance in white cricket for Australia, with getting a place in the Lord's Test. Five others are on the list of 100 consecutive Test appearances, but none are bowlers. They are Allan Border, Sunil Gavaskar, Alastair Cook, Brandon McCullum and Steve Waugh.

Interestingly, the last time Lyon was left out of the Test XI was at Lord's in 2013. After 10 years, this spinner touched the record of playing 100 consecutive Tests at Lord's.

Expressing the feeling of playing 100 Tests in a row, Lyon said, “That's something I'm really proud of. To be able to tick off 100 consecutive Test matches, that's a proper stat in my head. That's a lot of Test cricket, a lot of ups and downs. No wonder I've got no hair.”

He added, “For any athlete to be successful over a long period of time, you've got to have really good people around you, and I'm not talking within the Australian cricket team.”
