During a recent podcast, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc shared an amusing observation made by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who humorously pointed out the gap between the team's prize money and Starc's auction price. KKR's prize money for winning the IPL title was Rs 20 crore, while Starc's auction price was Rs 24.50 crore.
Starc recounted the moment, saying, “Any chance of a presentation or two hours later, so the game finished at 10 p.m. The presentation hadn’t even started by midnight. So we’re like, killed the vibe already. Sitting down and young Angkrish, who’s our number three. They see the winner’s cheques come over. Team gets 20 crore for winning the final. He goes, it’s not even what you got paid.”
In the recently concluded IPL season, the 34-year-old left-arm pacer had a remarkable performance during the playoffs. Starc was instrumental in KKR’s victory in Qualifier 1 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, claiming three wickets for 34 runs in four overs.
His stellar, unstoppable performance continued in the final, where he took two crucial wickets, including those of Indian young dashing batsman Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi. Starc's figures of 2/24 in three overs earned him the Player of the Match award, making him the first player to receive this accolade twice in the IPL playoffs.
