New Zealand have beaten Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the second ODI at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Tuesday (March 23). The win which mostly highlights the Bangladesh’s misfielding, has given New Zealand the series win with one match in hand. Batting first, Bangladesh have put on a brushed up batting performance against New Zealand after recovering from first ODI shocker of 131. They scored 271/6 in 50 overs. The start was shaky after Liton Das was caught for a four-ball duck at square leg off Matt Henry in the second over. Coming in at three, Soumya Sarkar struggled to rotate strike before finding feet and perishing for 46-ball 32 in an 81-run stand. There was a glimpse of controversy in the 15th over by Kyle Jamieson, who claimed a catch off his own bowling to dismiss Tamim Iqbal. However, TV umpire Chris Gaffaney overturned the soft signal 'out' as the ball touched the ground before Jamieson managed to stop his movement. Tamim rode his luck to his 50th ODI fifty, the first Bangladeshi to do so, before Jimmy Neesham kicked the ball onto the stumps to cause a run-out. The skipper played 108 balls for 78 runs with 11 boundaries. Mushfiqur Rahim's tour has not gone his way till now. He played 59 balls for 34 runs at a time his team needed to accelerate. The job was carried out by Mohammad Mithun, who hit his 6th ODI fifty and third against New Zealand. His attacking 73 not out off 57 balls took Bangladesh to a fighting total. He struck two sixes and five fours in his career-best innings. Spinner Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets for 51 for New Zealand, while Jamieson is the most economical with his 1/36 in ten overs. Chasing the target, Martin Guptill looked dangerous from the beginning of the innings but Mustafizur Rahman didn’t give him much space as the pacer got his wicket with a great slower delivery. After that, young spinner Mahedi Hasan got two wickets of Henry Nicholls and Will Young in a small interval with some nice deliveries. Inform batsman Devon Conway and captain Tom Latham managed to tackle the early struggle and made a huge 113-run partnership in 4^th wicket. However, much of the credit went to the Bangladeshi fielders as they were much sloppy on that day. Mushfiqur dropped Neesham’s catch early of the batsman's innings. Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal broke the partnership with a fabulous direct throw which saw Conway back to the pavilion scoring 72 runs off 93 balls. After that, Latham again built the innings. This time James Neesham was his partner. 76-run partnership in the fifth wicket saw Latham’s domination much of the time. But again Mustafizur Rahman gave hope to the visitors taking the wicket of Neesham. But Latham picked up his 5^th century of his career and was able to win the match for his team with Daryl Mitchell. Latham was unbeaten on 110 runs off 1018 balls and Mitchell was unbeaten on 12 runs. Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan took 2 wickets each for Bangladesh. Latham was adjusted man of the match for his match-winning century.
