Last month, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) fixed the new schedule of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) after postponing the third season last month. According to this schedule, this season will be held in December.
The SLC had earlier planned to start the LPL on July 31. But the tournament was postponed due to economic instability in Sri Lanka.
As per the new schedule, the tournament will start on December 6 and end on December 23. Lankan cricketers will spend busy time before and after LPL. After completing the home Test series against the West Indies, the cricketers will play the LPL. Then, the Lankans will play ODI series against India at the end of LPL.
Five teams will participate in this tournament of 24 matches. Although the venue of the tournament is yet to be finalized, the matches are likely to be held in Colombo and Hambantota.
The LPL players’ draft has already been completed. However, it is not yet known whether there will be a new draft due to the schedule change. A total of 353 cricketers signed up for the draft held last month. Each team had the opportunity to field a squad of 20 with a total of 14 local and 6 foreign players. However, no cricketer from Bangladesh got the team.
In 2020, Jaffna Stallions won the first season of LPL. The team won the title again in 2021 by participating as Jaffna Kings. Galle Gladiators were runners-up both times.
