New Zealand captain Kane Williamson recently shared a video on his Instagram showing the talismanic batsman playing in his country's shirt at the nets on Tuesday.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is one of the best all-format batters of modern times. He is currently among the best batsmen in world cricket and his team relies heavily on his batting ability. But the New Zealand captain suffered a horrific injury in the 2023 Indian Premier League opening game. He was playing for the Gujarat Titans and when he tried to stop a ball from going over the edge of the field, he jumped and landed awkwardly.

Williamson returned to New Zealand and underwent surgery in April. It was later reported that if he were unable to attend the World Cup in India, he might still travel with the team as a mentor.

However, in June it was revealed that Williamson had not given up on being able to play in the World Cup and there remained a slim chance he would recover in time for the tournament which begins on October 5 in Ahmedabad with New Zealand taking on England .

"Right now I'm just trying to keep it from week to week," Williamson had said in June. "I've never had an injury that long, but when I talk to other people who have suffered from it, the journey is quite long. So if you look too far into the future, it can probably get a little daunting.”

Earlier, the New Zealand coach, said Kane will take the final call to play in the World Cup and the team will give him every chance.

"He's doing very, very well, probably a little better than we expected at the time," he said. "We're going to take Kane off for as long as we can to give him every chance to be there. He's obviously a top-notch player," Gary told.

“It's exciting for us that he still has a chance. I can't say more as I don't know at the moment and it will be a last minute call," Gary added.
