The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Umar Akmal for three years for keeping a secret after receiving a fixing offer. Kamran supports Umar Akmal, terms three-year ban as 'very harsh'

However, two of his teammates, Mohammad Irfan, were recently given a six-month ban (suspended for another six months) for similar offenses, while Mohammad Nawaz had to stay out for only two months. But Umar had to face additional punishment for not acknowledging the crime he had committed in secret. Another Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal, elder brother of Umar, was surprised to see such a big punishment for his younger brother. According to him, this punishment had been definitely showing a lot of harshness towards Umar. Kamran also said that he would appeal against it.

"I am definitely surprised at the harsh punishment given to Umar. A three- year ban is very harsh. He (Umar) must do everything possible against it (to reduce the punishment). Many have received less punishment for the same crime before. But Umar was severely punished,”

Kamran said. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) counsel Taffazul Rizvi has already explained the reason for so much punishment. Taffazul said that Umar was caught trying to show cleverness. He said, “Akmal got up to support his own guilt. His answer was confusing. He never admitted his guilt and never denied it. He accepted the offer. However, he did not admit the crime of not informing, but was arguing about why he did not inform. But there is no chance of it. Either you said it or you kept it a secret. There is nothing in between.”
