Sri Lanka's young batting sensation Kamindu Mendis has set a new world record. As he becomes the first ever batter to score eight fifties in successive Tests from debut. The young batting prodigy achieved this landmark during the second Test match against New Zealand at Galle.

Kamindu Mendis broke the previous record scripted by Pakistan’s batting star Saud Shakeel who made seven half-centuries in successive Tests from debut. The top three includes former legendary Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar with joint-third most fifties (6) in consecutive Tests from debut.

The 25 year-old is now on the verge of becoming the fastest Sri Lankan to score 1,000 runs in Tests. He already has piled 873 runs in 13 innings (eighth Test), including four hundreds and five half-centuries. Roy Dias is currently holding the record for fastest 1,000 runs (23 innings) in Tests for Sri Lanka.

Kamindu Mendis recently bludgeoned 113 in the first Test matcg against New Zealand, it was his maiden century at his home ground in Galle.
