Lancashire Cricket is pleased to announce that James Anderson has signed a one-year contract to continue his playing career with the Club ahead of the 2025 season.

James Anderson will continue his professional playing career and could play his first T20 game in more than a decade after agreeing to a one-year contract extension with Lancashire.

Anderson, who made his debut for the Red Rose in 2001, has committed to play for Lancashire in both the Rothesay County Championship and Vitality Blast competitions in the new season.

Anderson has not played since his last Test match appearance against West Indies in July and was subsequently brought into England's support staff as a consultant. After speaking of his desire to carry on playing, he entered the IPL auction in December - but was not sold - and has now signed a deal with Lancashire to play in the County Championship and T20 Blast following the expiry of his central ECB contract.

"I am incredibly excited to sign this contract with Lancashire and get back to playing professional cricket next season," said Anderson. "This club has played a huge part in my life since I was a teenager, so I am really looking forward to wearing the Red Rose again and helping the team in both red and white ball cricket.

“I have worked hard to maintain my fitness and bowl regularly throughout the winter during my time as England coach, with the aim of being ready to hit the ground running when the county season starts in April.

“I love playing at Emirates Old Trafford and to have the chance to bowl in front of our members and fans again this summer will be really special.”

Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton also commented: “We have been in open dialogue with Jimmy since his retirement from the international team and our position was clear from the outset. It is fantastic news for everyone involved with the club that he has decided to continue his playing career with Lancashire.

"It was clear from a recent conversation with Jimmy that his desire to play professional cricket again was growing stronger by the day and he was just desperate to get back on the field. As it stands, he is fully committed to this summer's county season, both the County Championship and the Vitality Blast, and while we all know he will have other opportunities, he has made it clear that playing is his number one priority.

"The opportunity to share a dressing room with England's all-time best wicket-taker and one of cricket's greatest players is incredible for our team and I have no doubt that our members and supporters, as well as cricket fans around the world, will be just as excited to see Jimmy back in action for Lancashire next summer."
