As England gears up for the second Test after a massive win against Pakistan in Multan, reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to reuse the same pitch from the first Test. England's fast-bowling mentor, James Anderson, has weighed in on the decision, stating that a used surface could benefit his side, especially with spinners likely to play a larger role.

The second Test in Multan is anticipated to be played on a surface that saw high-scoring innings during the first Test, where both teams posted massive totals. Pakistan's top-order batters Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, and Salman Ali Agha scored centuries, while England's Harry Brook and Joe Root also shone, amassing 317 and 262 runs respectively.

Despite the high scores, Anderson believes a used pitch could tip the balance in favor of the spinners, giving England a tactical advantage.

"When we're talking about Ben's workloads and his bowling, it might play into our hands with that, with the spinners potentially playing more of a part… We don't know what we're going to get,” said Anderson, reflecting on how the conditions might affect their game plan.

Ben Stokes Likely to Return 

One of the key points of interest leading up to the match is the potential return of England's captain, Ben Stokes. After working diligently on his fitness, Stokes looks poised to rejoin the playing XI for the second Test. Anderson expressed his optimism, praising Stokes' dedication to getting back into shape.

“He looks great. He has worked really hard on his fitness and is looking as strong as I've ever seen him… Knowing Ben, once he gets into the game, there will be no stopping him. He's just that sort of player. He's good to go: we'll just have to wait and see what he can do in the game," Anderson said.
