Bangladesh's experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim suffered a strange dismissal in the Dhaka Test. He became a victim of rare out of cricket obstructing the field. A storm of discussion has started in the cricket world with such an out.
The incident happened in the 41st over of Bangladesh's first innings. Mushfiqur blocked a ball from Kyle Jamieson with the bat. However, as there was some possibility of the ball hitting the stumps, he moved the ball away with his hand, that's where the problem occurred. There is no rule to move the ball with hands like this on the cricket field, maximum use of bat or foot is allowed. New Zealand appealed to the umpire for obstructing the field out.
After checking the TV replay several times, the umpire gave Mushfiqur out according to the rules of obstructing the field. Kiwi spinner Mitchell Santner talked about such a rare dismissal.
“It's probably not a great option, because he was looking so good. I mean it was handy for us in terms of the time him and Dipu applied themselves and that was a very good partnership for them. And I think, going into tomorrow, if we can kind of get even some little partnerships like that, it's going to be a scrap, this whole test match. So, I think those little kind of partnerships going forward are going to be massive,” he said.
New Zealand is currently trailing by 117 runs in the match. In response to Bangladesh's 172 runs, the Kiwis scored 55 runs after losing 5 wickets at the end of the day's play.
