Bangladesh and New Zealand's game is quite equal in the Dhaka Test. At the end of the third day's play, Bangladesh is currently leading by 30 runs. There are 2 more days of play to go, though there are concerns about how much play will be possible with the ongoing spell of rain.

In the first innings, New Zealand scored 180 runs against Bangladesh's 172 runs, taking the lead by 8 runs. Among these runs, 87 runs came from the bat of Glenn Phillips. Phillips played an innings of 87 runs from 72 balls in aggressive batting, paving the way for the team to take the lead. Phillips announced his batting plan at the end of the day's play.

In the press conference, Phillips said, “I guess for me it was just trying to play with my bat as much as possible. And picking my poison effectively. Understanding that they're going to bowl really good balls. And what do I want to have in my court to be able to counteract those balls. And I guess just trying to stick to my game plan as clear as possible. And accepting the fact that the pitch is going to have a little bit of turn and bounce in some stages and not getting too caught up in that and just trying to stay calm and as clear as possible.”

Phillips also tried to apply lessons from the previous match, saying, “The fact that some balls keep incredibly low and move quite quickly and then some spit quite heavily and bounce a lot. Obviously, Mominul's first ball was pretty much one for the over, it turned and bounced so much. With the two extremes, I guess it's understanding, as I said, picking a poison and going which one am I happy with and accepting the fact that if the delivery that's outside of your game plan happens, you make peace with it. And for me, understanding the way that Nayeem got me in the first game and then how I wanted to play in this game. Having those two different game plans, all those adjustments, and understanding that even mid-game, if I wasn't happy with something making that change quite quickly, there's no point sitting on the side afterwards and going, I should have done that, which I did last game. Rather going this, if this happens again, I'm going to do this and actually do it.”

Regarding Mirpur's wicket, Phillips further said, “I think it played very similar to the way it did on day one. Bit of spin, bit of skid. And it definitely made for some tough work. And obviously there's a lot of risk involved in the way that both teams have battered, understanding that if you're only gonna be out there for so and so many balls and there's one with your name on it, you've gotta score off the ones that are available. So, it's a good challenge.”

Batting in the second innings, Bangladesh ended the day's play with 38 runs for 2 wickets. Currently, the Tigers are 30 runs ahead of the Kiwis. This is the second match of the two-match Test series. Bangladesh is leading the series by 1-0 after winning the first match by 150 runs.
