Lucknow Super Giants captain K.L. Rahul was fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) game against the Rajasthan Royals.
Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate in the game against the Rajasthan Royals. Rahul was fined Rs 12 lakh as it was his team's first offense under the slow overshoot rate. LSG defeated RR at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday.
"As it was the team's first offense this season under the IPL Code of Conduct in relation to breaches of minimum rates, Mr Rahul was fined Rs 12 lakhs," it added.
Rahul-led LSG beat league leaders RR by 10 runs on a challenging surface for the batters. Sanju Samson chose first field and his bowlers managed to restrict LSG for 154/7 in 20 overs.
Meanwhile, this isn't the first instance of captains being fined for slow overstepping. Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav was fined for Mumbai's slow over in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. GT captain Hardik Pandya and RR skipper Sanju Samson were also hit with over-slow fines. Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakh after his team slowly went too far in the game against the Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson was also Rs 12 lakh for RR's slow overrate against Chennai Super Kings.
KL Rahul's Lucknow Super Giants defeated Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals at their home in Jaipur to win Game 26 of the 2023 IPL by 10 runs. The game went down the drain but LSG emerged victorious by their regular scalps as their pacers starred in the defense of the 155 run at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. LSG Pacer Avesh Khan and Marcus Stoinis shared five wickets. The former was tasked with throwing the final over of the game, with RR feeling a comeback. But he took two wickets in the over and denied RR a win on their homecoming. This is also the lowest total defended so far this IPL season.
