Following India's shocking 25-run defeat in the third Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, captain Rohit Sharma expressed his disbelief and concern over Rishabh Pant’s controversial dismissal that played a pivotal role in India’s collapse.

The incident, which occurred on day three of the final Test, quickly became a major talking point as India not only lost the match but suffered their first-ever home Test series whitewash in a series of three or more matches.

Pant's dismissal, which came after New Zealand opted for a review, led to a dramatic shift in the match. Ajaz Patel delivered a full ball that spun back sharply and appeared to brush close to Pant’s inside edge before popping up for Tom Blundell to complete the catch.

The on-field umpire ruled Pant not out, but New Zealand captain Tom Latham called for a DRS referral. Despite Pant insisting there was no contact with the bat, the third umpire, Paul Reiffel, overturned the decision, leaving Pant stunned as he walked back to the pavilion. India, who were chasing 147, crumbled soon after, being bowled out for just 121.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Rohit Sharma did not hide his frustration with the decision, emphasizing that the lack of conclusive evidence should have led to the on-field decision standing. “About that dismissal, I honestly don’t know. If we say something, it is not accepted well. But if there is no conclusive evidence, it has to go with the on-field decision. That’s what I have been told,” Rohit said.

Rohit further expressed concerns about consistency in the decision-making process, saying, “The bat was clearly close to the pad. I don’t know if it’s the right thing for me to talk about, but it’s something for the umpires to think about. Have the same rules for every team, not keep changing their mind.”

Pant’s dismissal came at a crucial juncture when India looked like they could pull off the chase. “That dismissal was very, very crucial from our point of view,” Rohit added. “Rishabh was really looking good at that point, and it felt like he would take us through. But it was an unfortunate dismissal. After he got out, we were bowled out right after that.”
