After much searching, the United States Cricket Board has finally got its own head coach. USA has signed India's Ranji Trophy cricketer Jagadeesh Arunkumar as its head coach for the next two years. J Arunkumar has long captained the Indian state of Karnataka.

He will take over from interim USA coach James Pamment. Pamment was given a mid-term role in October 2019 in search of a new head coach. He has been relieved of that responsibility. However, USA has not renewed the contract with the previous coaching staff. Former India cricketers Kiran More, Sunil Joshi and Pravin Amre and former Australia bowling coach David Saker have all been bid farewell. Arunkumar will start working on a permanent basis as soon as he gets a working visa. Ian Higgins, CEO of USA Cricket, said:

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached a permanent agreement with him (J Arunkumar). He will start work as soon as he gets the visa."

Arunkumar applied for coaching through the USA Cricket’s website last February. He also got a job offer within a week of the interview. Arunkumar even did a ten-day camp with the national team last March. But now almost all international flights around the world are closed due to coronavirus. So the new head coach of the team cannot go to the USA from India. However, he is in constant touch with the players and other support staff through video calls. He has also created a module for players to practice. Arunkumar has played domestic cricket in India for almost 15 years. He has scored 7,208 runs with 20 centuries in his first-class career before taking to the field in 2008 for the last time. Besides, he has 3,227 runs with 7 centuries in his List A career. Later, in 2012 he enrolled in coaching. He also got success soon. Under him, Karnataka won three domestic cricket titles (Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Irani Cup) in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Arunkumar even has the experience of coaching in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has worked as an assistant to Virender Sehwag in Kings XI Punjab. Apart from this, he has also coached Hyderabad and Puducherry teams.
