The ongoing edition of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 tournament is being held in India for the first time in history. The fifth game of the mega event between India and Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium saw a low-scoring encounter. 

Shreyas Iyer gets dismissed for a duck against AustraliaBatting first, Australia were bowled out for 199 in 49.3 overs. Steve Smith top-scored with 46 runs. On the contrary, Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for Team India as he accounted for 3 dismissals, giving away 28 runs in his quota of 10 overs. More importantly, he bowled 2 maiden overs against Australia.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets apiece. On the other hand, Team India were in a real spot of bother as they lost the top order batters namely Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed for a duck, in what was a major shock to the Indian cricket team.

In the process, India created an unwanted record as this is the first time in Indian cricket history that three of India's top-order batters were dismissed for a duck. Besides that, this is the also seventh instance that both opening batters were dismissed for a duck.

Mitchell Starc opened the account by dismissing Ishan Kishan for a duck before Josh Hazlewood trapped Rohit Sharma for an LBW and the latter was dismissed for a duck. Josh Hazlewood once again provided a breakthrough by dismissing Shreyas Iyer for a duck. 

Despite being reeling at 2/3, India found support in the form of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. The duo added a 165-run stand for the fourth wicket, which set up a perfect platform for India.
