South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir has accused Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Rangpur Riders of not clearing his full payment for his participation in the 2024 BPL season. Tahir voiced his grievances during the toss of the Global Super League match between Rangpur Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors.
In the 2024 BPL, Tahir played three matches for Rangpur Riders, taking six wickets and making a notable impact. During the toss, Tahir expressed his disappointment, stating: " I would like to win it for Guyana, for personal reasons as well. Played for Rangpur Riders in last BPL. Have not got my all contract money."
This isn’t the first time Tahir has faced such issues in the BPL. In 2019, he alleged that Sylhet franchise did not pay him any of his agreed fees. However, Tahir had previously described Rangpur Riders as a "professional" franchise, making his current allegations more surprising.
Tahir contrasted his experience with Rangpur by praising Guyana Amazon Warriors for their management and treatment of players: " Guyana has brought their local players, they can earn some money, play some good cricket and we will show them, we are better human than them (Rangpur Riders)."
Guyana Amazon Warriors have been proactive, including Bangladesh’s young pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib in their squad. Tanzim has been a regular in the playing XI, featuring in all three matches so far.
Despite being 45 years old, Tahir continues to be a match-winner. In the ongoing Global Super League, he has already picked up six wickets in three matches, including a match-winning three-wicket haul against Hampshire, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have won two of their three matches, positioning themselves well in the league. On the other hand, Rangpur Riders are struggling, losing both of their opening matches and facing an early elimination threat.
