The dates for the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024 have been announced. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from January 13th to February 4th.
The ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024 fixture list has been announced as hosts Sri Lanka prepare to welcome the future stars of world cricket to the island nation for the first time since 2006.
The event will take place at five different venues in the capital Colombo. This is the 15th edition of the event, with 16 teams competing in 41 games for the coveted trophy.
Eleven full member teams qualified directly for the tournament, while five additional teams secured their place through regional qualifiers, including Namibia, Scotland, USA, Nepal and New Zealand.
Five historic venues in Colombo will host the 15th edition of the celebrated event; the P. Sara Oval, the Colombo Cricket Club, the Nondescripts Cricket Club, the Sinhalese Sports Club and the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, the arena that will host the two semi-finals on January 30th and February 1st and the final on the 4th February was selected.
The action begins on January 13th with three meetings on opening day. Hosts Sri Lanka face Zimbabwe at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, while 2022 finalists England play Scotland at the Colombo Cricket Club and New Zealand take on Nepal at the P. Sara Oval.
In a new, revised format, the best teams from the group stage will qualify for a Super Six stage, where two groups of six teams will compete to determine the semi-finalists.
Group A: India, Bangladesh, Ireland, USA
Group B: England, South Africa, West Indies, Scotland
Group C: Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Namibia
Group D: Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand, Nepal
“The ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup has a long tradition of introducing the sport's future stars to global audiences,” ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley said during the schedule release.
“Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Angelo Mathews are some of the names who graced the world stage at this event and we are sure that tradition will continue as the drama unfolds across the 41 games of the tournament.”
