Former South African cricketer Faf du Plessis has bid an emotional farewell to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after not being retained by the team for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Faf took to Instagram to express his gratitude and reflect on his memorable three-year stint with the franchise, highlighting the connection he built with the city of Bengaluru and its passionate fans.
In a heartfelt note, Faf wrote: "As my chapter with RCB closes, I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible journey this has been. When I joined three years ago, I had no idea how this journey would unfold. But I fell in love with the city of Bengaluru and the amazing people of RCB. This place and its people have become a part of who I am, and I'll carry these memories and the connections I've built with me forever. Thank you for making these three years so special."
The former RCB skipper described playing at Chinnaswamy Stadium as one of the most "electric experiences" of his career. "The energy, the passion, and the support from the fans make it truly one of a kind. Every time I stepped onto that field, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical," he added.
Faf concluded his message with heartfelt thanks to the fans, teammates, coaches, and RCB's staff and owners: "As I say goodbye, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone—the fans, my teammates, the staff, coaches, and owners. It's been an honour to be a part of this journey with you. Much love," he wrote.

Faf was acquired by RCB in the IPL 2022 mega auction and named the team's captain. During his time with the franchise, he played 45 matches, amassing 1,636 runs at an impressive average of 38.04, including 15 half-centuries. Known for his leadership and aggressive style, Faf was instrumental in some of RCB’s memorable victories over the last three seasons.
However, in the IPL 2025 auction, the Delhi Capitals acquired his services for INR 2 crore, marking the end of his RCB chapter

Faf du Plessis is not the only high-profile player to switch franchises ahead of IPL 2025. Rishabh Pant, who was sold to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a record-breaking Rs. 27 crore, bid farewell to the Delhi Capitals after seven years.
