The 2008 Indian Cricket League (ICL) came as a storm in Bangladesh cricket. 13 Bangladesh cricketers were banned for playing in the unauthorized ICL. Many believe that then Bangladesh national team captain Mohammad Ashraful played a big role in that incident. I didn't go to ICL even after getting an offer of Rs 15 crore: Ashraful

However, Ashraful, who repeatedly claimed his innocence in the past, defended himself once again this time in a live show with Bdcrictime. There was an offer for Ashraful to play in ICL with Bangladesh team cricketers. After receiving the offer, he discussed it with then-coach Jamie Siddons and Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu. And after informing the offer to the cricketers, some agreed to play. Later, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to ban those players who would take part in the ICL. But Ashraful, on the advice of his father Abdul Matin and coach Wahidul Gani, he decided not to play in the ICL. He made such a claim on the live show.

“The offer to play in the ICL came to me first. I asked many players including Mashrafe- what’s your thought on such an offer. I was offered Rs 15 crore for 3 years. The rest hadn’t been offered a hefty amount like me. There were offered 1-1.5 crore rupees. I was asked by ICL to take a team from Bangladesh. Siddons said- if I got the offer, I would have gone before anyone (to ICL). Because we’re playing for money,”

he said. “I also told Lipu bhai. Wahid sir is my master, I talked to him and also told my father about it. My father said one thing- son, a lot of money can be earned. Bangladeshi people give you and the cricketers so much respect even which they don’t give to the Prime Minister of the country. Wahid sir also said the same thing- there’s no need to go for money, you play for the country,” Ashraful added. 13 Bangladeshi cricketers went to the ICL and formed team Dhaka Warriors which was led by Habibul Bashar, the former national captain and included recent internationals Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kapali, Shahriar Nafees, Farhad Reza, Dhiman Ghosh and Mosharraf Hossain. However, it was said that if Ashraful didn’t go, no Bangladesh players wouldn’t go to play in ICL. But how did 13 cricketers went to play in ICL, that question’s answer hadn’t cleared yet, even Ashraful himself didn’t know the answer.
