Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis has taken the cricket world by storm with a remarkable start to his Test career. The 25-year-old dazzled in the ongoing second Test against New Zealand in Galle, smashing an unbeaten 182 to propel Sri Lanka to a commanding first-innings score of 602-5. With three full days remaining, New Zealand face a daunting task after being reduced to 22-2 by stumps on Day 2.
Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has been particularly impressed with Mendis’ technique and composure at the crease. In a video on his YouTube channel, Basit drew comparisons between Mendis and Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, especially in how the young batter plays the ball late.
“What a player he is. I saw him in the England series too, and now in this series as well. He should be in the Fab Four in the coming days. He is just 25 years old and these are early days for him. He plays the ball so late, just like Sangakkara. I liked the player. He has a lot of potential,” Basit said
